During the last three decades, thermal plasmas have been among the most productive systems to acheive high-temperature sources and processes. There are many industrial applications, especially in metallurgy and waste destruction. This volume collects papers presented at the Fifth International Thermal Plasma Processes Conference (TPP5), held in St. Petersburg, Russia, in July 1998. Over one hundred participants representing many nations were in attendance.
