Abstract

Phase-Doppler Anemometry is one of the most advanced optical techniques to measure the size and the velocity of moving particles in liquid atomization and spray systems. In order to make significant improvements to PDA systems, it is necessary to increase the computational accuracy of the PDA signal. In this connection it is very important to simulate the influence of the incident beam profile and the position of the spherical particle in the measurement volume on the PDA signal. The angular plane wave spectrum (PWS) of the incident beam is one of the perspective methods which can be used to calculate the above mentioned effects. A fast-technique based on the PWS method to simulate the PDA signal is presented. It is suggested to simulate the unit polarization vector of the electric field scattered to an arbitrary observation point and its amplitude in the coordinate system of the i-th PWS plane wave, primarily to decrease the calculation time. A technique for transformation of the above vector in the coordinate system of the receiver polarizer is described.
