Abstract

Based on the theory that the high temperature is one of the causes of coal oxidation, this paper presents the experimental investigation on preventing coal stockpiles against spontaneous ignition by dissipating heat and decreasing the temperature of the coal piles with heat pipes, which have the characteristics of high equivalent heat conductivity coefficient and one-way heat transfer feature. It introduces the process and the results of the site experiments, and provides the rate of heat dissipation and effective range of the heat pipes at certain ambient conditions. It also gives brief descriptions on the structure of the heat pipes and the selection of their working medium.
