At the present time 80% of the energy demand is covered
by fossil fuels, with many dangerous consequences such as
geopolitical tensions for the possession of oilfields and
Hydrogen is commonly considered as a "clean" alternative
to fossil fuels, but in order to achieve a sustainable hydrogen society new production processes should be developed.
At the moment four different bio-production processes
have been observed: Biophotolysis, Photofermentation, Bio-
Reforming and Anaerobic Hydrogen Fermentation (AHF).
In this work AHF is suggested as one of the most
interesting bio-production processes, owing to its higher
productivity, its stability, its independence from night-day cycle and mainly its power to produce energy-rich streams from wastewater and waste materials.
