EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THE INFLUENCE OF IRRADIATION ON THE ONSET OF NATURAL CONVECTION IN A WATER LAYER

Abstract

The results of experimental investigation of the onset of natural convection in a water layer above a surface irradiated through such layer have been presented. Due to radiation absorption in the water layer, the temperature gradient appears in this layer, opposite to the one causing the onset of convection. Example results of the heating surface temperature variation vs. time, as well as visual investigation, have been shown. Own results are compared with the ones available in the literature.
