Critical Reviews™ in Oncogenesis

Download - instruction.pdf

Aims and Scope. The journal is dedicated to extensive reviews and contributions on topics of current interest in basic and patient-oriented cancer research. The systems biology of cancer with a potential of molecular-assisted diagnostics and treatment imply competence across the sciences as well as an increasing necessity for cancer researchers to understand both the technology and medicine.
The journal allows readers to quickly adapt a better understanding of various fields of molecular oncology.
We welcome articles on basic mechanisms relevant to cancer, such as DNA repair, cell cycle, etc., the use of model organisms, overviews of various scientific approaches (epidemiology, molecular genetics, epigenetics, bioinformatics, high-throughput approaches, etc.) applied to one disease or to cancer in general, and updates on validation studies of biomarkers as well as the implementation of molecular oncology into clinical practice.
We also welcome contributions to our section "New Doctorial Cancer Research". This is an opportunity for new Ph.Ds. to present themselves and their work, preferentially followed by a commentary of a senior scientist with knowledge of the study, and such, attention is also drawn to the work of the research group. A submission form for this section can be downloaded from the journal web-site at www.begellhouse.com.

Submission of Review Article. Manuscripts to be considered for publication should be submitted to Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Ragnhild A. Lothe or Managing Editor, Dr. Rolf I. Skotheim, by e-mail at cro-editors@dnr.uio.no or by regular mail to Dept. of Genetics, Institute for Cancer Res., The Norwegian Radium Hospital, N-0310 Oslo, Norway. Manuscripts may also be sent to the associate editors, who may add a letter of recommendation or choose to directly transfer the manuscript to the editorial office. Two referees will evaluate all manuscripts prior to final decision.
A cover letter stating contact information for the corresponding author and a brief description of the review topic and the submission content (number of files, formats, etc.) should accompany the manuscript submission. In addition, we encourage the authors to suggest suitable reviewers.

Manuscript style. Manuscripts should be written with 12 pt. Times New Roman, double spaced, with pages numbered consecutively throughout. DOC or RTF are preferred formats. The manuscript should contain the following parts:

Title page: A full title (preferably not exceeding 80 characters), authors, affiliations, short title (less than 40 characters), and corresponding author information.

Abstract: Try to keep within 250 words.

Text: The main text body should be divided into relevant headings and subheadings.

References: Number references to the literature or other bibliographic notes consecutively in the text, avoiding repetition by using the number that corresponds to the original reference. Reference numbers are typed as unparenthesized superscripts following either the author name(s) or the sentence or clause containing the referenced material. Place numbers after all punctuation with no space between.
Critical Reviews™ in Oncogenesis uses the Vancouver Style for all references. This style is available in all commonly-used reference management programs and style manuals.(Please visit www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/uniform_requirements.html for more detailed instructions on using the Vancouver Style and the latest updates.) No manuscript will be accepted for publication unless the references are correctly formatted as shown below. List names of all authors, "et al." is no longer allowed.
Bibliographic references to classified documents and reports or to unpublished material not generally available to the scientific public should not be used.
Following are samples of reference formatting.

Tables. Use tables when they can present information more effectively than running text. Tables should be grouped at the end of the manuscript on separate sheets.

Figures. Prepare figures at the size you expect them to appear on print, which should correspond to either one (3 in., 7.5 cm) or two columns (6.5 in., 16.5 cm). Each figure should be submitted as a single file (TIF and PDF are accepted formats) with CMYK color settings and at a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Text or numbers on the illustration should be in Arial 8−10 pt. type when printed. Group figures and figure legends at the end of the manuscript.
It is the responsibility of the author to obtain permission to use previously published material. Permission must be obtained from the original copyright owner, which in most cases is the publisher. Color can be used in the illustrations if the authors bear the incremental charges (which will be provided upon request). Acknowledgement of the authors' willingness to defray the cost of color reproduction should be included in the cover letter.

Author Proof and Offprint Orders. A proof of the typeset article will be sent to the corresponding author for review and correction of technical information approximately one month before publication. Proofs are sent by email in PDF format; if a fax is needed, please so indicate in a cover letter with the final submitted materials. The usual turnaround time for corrections is 48 hours (not counting weekends). The corresponding author will receive a complimentary copy of the printed issue in which their article appears. An order form for additional offprints, copies of the issue, color figures, and subscriptions will be included with the author proofs and may be returned with author corrections. Please check if coauthors want to order additional offprint's or issues as well.
