The Journal of Porous Media welcomes original, full-length research manuscripts and technical notes in a variety of research areas that present novel findings pertinent to the study of porous media. Only manuscripts that have not been previously published and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere may be submitted.Letters to the Editor will be considered, subject to approval of the Editorial-in-Chief.
SUBMISSION FOR PEER REVIEW
Email one PDF file that includes text, tables, and figures to the Editor-in-Chief at vafai@engr.ucr.edu.
Include the following information with the PDF submission:
- Corresponding author's name, affiliation, complete mailing address, and email address.
- Statement attesting that the manuscript has not been submitted elsewhere for review for publication.
Editor-in-Chief:
Professor Kambiz Vafai
Department of Mechanical Engineering
University of California, Riverside

SUBMISSION OF ACCEPTED ARTICLE
After a manuscript has been accepted and all required revisions have been incorporated, mail 2 copies of the final manuscript, typed double-spaced on US Letter or A4 paper, and a CD or diskette containing the complete manuscript, to the Editor-in-Chief at the address above. Figures should be saved in separate files from text and tables. Label the disk with the author's last
name(s), title of the article, abbreviated journal name, and date. Include high-quality printouts of original figures, even if art is submitted electronically. Please provide a list of the software programs used for the art and text and the file names on the disk.
PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPTS
MANUSCRIPT FORM: Manuscripts must be in English, double-spaced, in 12-point type, on US Letter or A4 paper with ample margins.Number all pages consecutively, and order as follows.
- Article title.
- Running head of 5-7 words.
- First and last name(s) of all author(s).
- Institutional affiliation(s) of each author.
- Corresponding author's email address (Note: email address must able to accept attachments), mailing address, and fax number.
- An abstract of 100−200 words, summarizing the scientific issue(s) addressed and the objectives of the investigation (Note: abstracts not required for technical comments).
For articles containing more than a few symbols, include a nomenclature list in alphabetical order, with Greek symbols (also in alphabetical order and with a separate heading) following the alphabetical listing.
FULL-LENGTH ARTICLES: Full-length articles should not exceed 40 manuscript pages, logically divided into sections and subsections as follows. Introduction: A concise assessment of previous work by others and an explanation of how the present work contributes to the field.
Main Body of Article.
Conclusion: Concluding remarks should stand alone and contain sufficient information that reference to the main body of the text for more details is not required.
Acknowledgment(s): Give appropriate credit to anyone who contributed to the work substantially but not sufficiently to be listed as a coauthor.
References: See below for details on formatting reference citations and lists.
Appendices, Tables, & Figure Captions. If present, each category should start on a separate page. (As mentioned above, figures should be in separate files).
TECHNICAL NOTES: Technical notes, not to exceed 10 manuscript pages, should disclose new, significant data or developments of limited scope and should contain abstract, introduction, and description of results.
TECHNICAL COMMENTS: Technical comments, not to exceed 4 manuscript pages, should relate to findings previously published in the Journal of Porous Media.
NUMERICAL ACCURANCY: JPM will accept for publication only those articles reporting 1) numerical solutions of an engineering problem that fully addresses the accuracy of the computed results, and/or 2) experimental results where the accuracy of the data is adequately addressed. All articles must use SI units throughout; English units may be included parenthetically.
ELECTRONIC IMAGE PREPARATION
Prepare figures so that they are no larger then of 6.5 inches wide and 6.5 inches long. Use only Arial and Symbol fonts for text within figures. Acceptable formats for figures are TIFF, JPEG, or EPS files saved from the original application at 300-600 dpi. Because of the loss of resolution, embedding figure files in MS Word is not recommended. The preferred format is TIFF; however, the maintaining a clear quality of the figures is most important. Do not use gray rules, only black. If the text is printed over gray backgrounds for any reason, the gray must be at least 50% lighter than the text. If possible, avoid grayscales entirely. In general, for best results, figures must be submitted at the highest possible quality.
AUTHOR PROOFS AND OFFPRINT ORDER INFORMATION
A proof of the typeset article will be sent to the corresponding author for review and correction of technical information approximately one month before publication. Proofs are sent by email in PDF format; if a fax is needed, please so indicate in a cover letter with the final submitted materials. The usual turnaround time for corrections is 48 hours (not counting weekends). The corresponding author will receive a copy of the printed issue in which their article appears. An order form for additional offprints, copies, and subscriptions will be included with the author proofs and may be returned with author corrections. Please check if coauthors want to order additional offprints or issues as well.
R E F E R E N C E S
Cite references in the text using the last name of the author(s) and the year of publication, either as "(Doe and Johnson, 1992)" or "Doe and Johnson (1992)." For more than two authors, use "Doe et al. (1992)." If any references contain identical authors and year of publication, cite in the form "Doe et al. (1992a)."
Order the reference list alphabetically and format according to the following samples. Incorrectly formatted reference lists will be returned to the author for correction before acceptance.
