Atomization and Sprays is a bimonthly journal aimed at publishing original papers on experimental and analytical studies of atomization and spray processes. Topics include physical processes of flow in atomizers, disintegration of liquid sheets and jets, and spray characteristics. Design of atomizers, development of experimental techniques, optical imaging, measurement of particle size, shape, velocity and number density, heat and mass transfer processes, theoretical and numerical analyses, and industrial applications are acceptable.
Manuscript Submission. Manuscripts submitted must be suitable for publication in an archival journal. Four copies of each manuscript, accompanied by names and addresses, phone, fax, and e-mail identification of four experts in the field of the work, should be sent to Dr. Norman Chigier, Mechanical Engineering Department, Carnegie Mellon University, 5000 Forbes Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15213-3890 (tel: 412-268-2498, fax: 412-268-3348, e-mail: chigier@andrew.cmu.edu). Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere. The original drawings should be retained by the author until the conclusion of the review process. The original typed manuscript also should be retained by the author. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. It will be most helpful to authors and the editor if manuscripts are sent for review to expert colleagues before they are submitted for consideration for publication.
Transfer of Copyright. Contributions to Atomization and Sprays are accepted only on the understanding that the copyright is vested in Begell House, Inc. All papers accepted for publication must be accompanied by a copyright release form signed by the author. This form is available from the editor. Where text, figures, photographs, etc., are reproduced from copyrighted material. The author(s) will be required to produce written evidence that appropriate permission to make such reproduction has been granted by the copyright holder(s).
Manuscript Preparation. All manuscripts must be prepared in English and typed double-spaced on one side of the page only and with adequate margins. The following procedures should be followed:
Title, authors, and affiliations. The first page of tbe paper should contain a brief, clear, and descriptive title. The names and institutional affiliations of all authors should be given and the mailing address of the author who will act as corresponding author. The editor will communicate with the corresponding author in the process of refereeing the paper and preparing the manuscript for publication. Unless the authors indicate otherwise, the address of the corresponding author will be included on the first page of the published version of the paper so that persons interested in the work may write to that person if they so wish.
Abstract. Every paper must have an abstract of about 50 to 150 words.
Introduction. The first part of the paper (INTRODUCTION) should explain the purpose of tbe study, cite relevant work, and describe objectives.
Body. The body of the paper presents details of the study. It should be divided into several sections identified by descriptive headings. Each section may be further subdivided.
Conclusions. This section should discuss the significance of the work, its limitations and advantages, applications of the results, and further work that should be done.
Nomenclature. A separate nomenclature section at the end of the paper should list in detail the symbols used in the manuscript, their definitions, and their units. The nomenclature list should be in alphabetical order with Greek symbols following the alphabetical listing. Subscripts and superscripts should follow Greek symbols and should be identified with a heading. Units should be included only when necessary for the understanding of the textual material. To indicate units involving fractions, slashes should be used (e.g., k thermal conductivity, W/m × °C; r density, kg/m3). The SI system should be used throughout, with the appropriate prefixes (see below). Wherever possible, the nomenclature should follow that described in Glossary of Terms in Heat Transfer, Fluid Flow and Related Topics by W. Begell (Hemisphere Publishing Corporation, 1983).
References. References to cited literature should be identified in the text in square brackets and grouped at the end of the paper in numerical order of appearance. Double-spaced typing must be used throughout. References should be styled and punctuated according to the following examples: journal article [1], book [2], thesis [3], report [4], proceedings [5], and edited book [6].

Always give inclusive page numbers for references to journal articles and a page or chapter for books. Each reference must be cited in the text.
Equations. All mathematical equations should be carefully typewritten and checked so that a typesetter can follow the copy easily. Equation numbers should be Arabic numerals enclosed in parentheses on the righthand margin. They should be cited in the text as, for example, Eq. (10) or Eqs. (12)–(16).
Tables and Figures. All tables and figures should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. They should be briefly and descriptively titled and should be referred to in the text. Each table should be typed on a separate page. Table footnotes should be keyed with superscript letters. Line illustrations should be in a form suitable for reproduction, drawn in India ink on good-quality white paper or vellum.
Figures should be clearly labeled. Photographs should be sharp black and white glossy prints. Figure captions should be typed double-spaced on a separate page at the end of the manuscript. Special care needs to be taken to prepare diagrams professionally so that they will be clearly visible, with legible lettering, after they have been reduced in size on the final printed page.
Units. Units should be SI using prefixes in units of 103 (i.e., exa, peta, tera giga, mega, kilo, milli, micro, nano, pico, fento, and atto for the range 1018 to 10-18, respectively).
Spelling. Follow Webster’s Third New International Dictionary.
Refereeing Procedures. The editor dealing with the paper will send it to two referees who will advise the editor on the acceptability of the paper for the journal. The editor will communicate the decision on publication to the corresponding author. The corresponding author may be asked to resubmit the paper in a modified form.
Disk. Authors must submit a disk containing the revised (i.e., refereed, updated) text file with the final manuscript. Acceptable formats for electronic files are Microsoft Word and Word Perfect. Equations must be MathType compatible.
Publication. Following acceptance of the paper, the editor will transmit it to the publisher, who will typeset the paper and provide one set of page proofs to the corresponding author. The proofs should be checked and returned promptly. Authors will be charged for excessive proof changes.
Non-English Speaking Authors. Authors in non-English speaking countries are requested to find persons who are fully conversant and competent in English writing and also familiar with the scientific language of atomization and sprays to edit manuscripts before they are submitted to the editor. Referrals to U.S. translation services authorized by the publisher are available at www.begellhouse.com.
Four-Color Illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author wil1 be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. Charges for color reproduction will be provided upon request. Good-quality color prints should be provided, in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable. A letter acknowledging the willingness to pay for the color prints should be sent to the editor with the prints. Begell House, Inc. will then send an invoice to the author upon publication of the prints.
