Submission of Manuscripts. Manuscripts may be sent to the Editor-in-Chief: Maria da Graça Carvalho, Instituto Superior Técnico, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Av. Rovisco Pais, 1049-001 Lisbon, Portugal; Phone: +351-21-8417378; Fax : +351-21-8475545; E-mail: mail@cleanair-journal.com
Authors must submit manuscripts on disk. The disk should be prepared using MSWord or WordPerfect and should be clearly labelled with the authors´ names, corresponding author’s email address, file name, and software program. A hardcopy printout that exactly matches the disk must be supplied. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
Specifications. All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more than 100 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text. Further instructions and an author template can be obtained from the journal’s web page at www.begellhouse.com
Illustrations. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
300 dpi or higher
sized to fit on journal page
TIFF or PDF file from the original program format only
submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color. The charge for the initial color figure is $ 1,200. Subsequent figures, totalling no more than 4 text pages, are $500.00 each. Figures needing reduction or enlargement will be charged an additional 25 percent. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of any artwork deemed unacceptable.
Tables and Figures. Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate TIFF or PDF files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labelled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet.
Units. Metric units are preferred. Acceptable abbreviations of units are given in the Style Manual of the American Institute of Physics and similar publications.
References. References are indicated in the text by the Harvard (name and date) system: either "Recent work (Smith, 1997)..." or "Recently Smith (1997) has found..." For single and two-author citations, "author 1, author 2, and author 3 (year)" for the first mention of three-author papers and "author 1 et al. (year)" there-after, and "author 1 (year)" for four-author citations and above for the first and all subsequent listings. The full list should be collected at the end of the paper in alphabetic order. Listed references should include all details, including article titles: abbreviations of journal titles should follow the Chemical Abstracts style. Authors' initials should follow their names: the year of publication follows the last-named author in parentheses. Examples:
Prada, L. and Miller, J. A. (1988) Reburning using several hydrocarbon fuels: a kinetic modeling study J. Comb. Sci. & Tech., 132, 225.
Hein, K. (1995) Fossil Fuel Utilization. In Carvalho, M. G. et al. (Eds.) Combustion Technologies for a Clean Environment, Gordon and Breach, N. Y., Vol. 1, pp. 69-82.
Proofs and Offprints. The corresponding author will receive proofs, which should be proofread and returned within 48 hours of receipt. Corrections are limited to copy editing and typesetting errors only. No substantial author’s changes will be made.
