    ABSTRACT

Self-organized space-time structures are numerically investigated in distributed active (excitable) systems. The origin, the evaluation, the interaction, and the decay of rotating spiral autowaves are studied in the framework of the generalized Wiener-Rosenblueth model. Slowing down of transient processes caused by the rotating spiral autowave evolution has been revealed. The multistability of coherent rotating spiral autowaves is demonstrated. The transient space-time chaos has been observed in an excitable three-level medium in the absence of coherent rotating spiral autowaves.
