A Short-Range RF Holographic Information System Built Around a Spherical Antenna of Middle-Sized Aperture

ABSTRACT

The feasibility of an airborne radar system is consider, which should be able to prevent aircraft collisions with other, suddenly appearing objects located at a short range and approaching at high speed. Surveilling such objects would require formation of a spherical area of coverage, high accuracy of angular coordinate measurements and short acquisition times. For this reason it is suggested to create a system based on spherical antenna employing holographic methods of signal processing in the aperture. The suggested method of wave field processing in the spherical antenna is described. Calculation formulas for the directional pattern of the spherical antenna are given and the respective plots presented.
