ABSTRACT

This paper considers a method of retrieval of distance from an aircraft to the source of lightning discharge. The purpose consists in timely detection of a lightning threat in order to provide the pilot with necessary information to avoid dangerous zones in flight. This is especially important under the condition of implementation of the new CNS/ATM and 'free flight' concept when a pilot get much more freedom.
