Spectra of Output Signals from Diffraction Radiation Oscillators with Quarter-Wave (Reflecting) Diffraction Gratings

ABSTRACT
The present paper considers the question on the fast wave energy part capture by the periodic structure (diffraction gratings) placed in the generator on one of the open resonator mirrors. It is shown, that the cases of energy capture are physically equivalent to the loss of the fast wave energy leaking from the interaction space in the form of surface waves of the periodic structure. During the combined frequency tuning the events of fast wave energy trapping by the homogeneous diffraction grating are repeating almost periodically, that causes corresponding modulation of the generator output signal intensity spectrum (P = Φ(f)). Experiments have shown that the excitation of higher modes in the generator resonance structure/system leads to the deviations from lines φ = 2π into the π-kind existence domain being typical for the generator operation under diffraction radiation conditions. These deviations represent the cases of diffraction radiation generator excitation in the modes of a volume-wave backward-wave tube.
