A comparative analysis of the results of calculating the fields of di-pole emission by an exact formula and its rough approximation, used in practice in accordance with a functional methodology for assessing security of hardware components of personal computers by leakage of information via the channels of extraneous electromagnetic emission, has been performed. It has been shown that, in a number of cases, there is a significant divergence in these results, which leads to serious errors in determining the size of a controlled zone.
