    ABSTRACT

This article describes a fully analytical methodology for predicting the environmental impact of landfills used for the disposal of hazardous solid wastes from different energy fuel cycles. It is also shown that the proposed approach can be used for the establishment of a unified risk scale. All the main phenomena involved in the waste migration as well as the main pathways are taken into consideration. An example was selected to illustrate the methodology, and the results indicate a good agreement between the qualitative ranking of dangerous substances indicated by the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA/USA, and by the present "work. The determination of a unified risk scale for all chemical pollutants related to the environment could be used for the establishment and derivation of exemption limits for regular landfills, which until now have not been available.
