SOLUTION OF HEAT CONDUCTION PROBLEMS WITH DISCONTINUITIES VIA INTEGRAL TRANSFORMS

ABSTRACT

In some important engineering applications of the transport equations, it is common to find discontinuities of several types within the domain. Such discontinuities demand specific treatment by the majority of numerical methods, as coordinate transformation, grid refinement, etc. In this work, the generalized integral transform technique (GITT) is employed to solve two kinds of discontinuities inside a square: variable properties and a localized source term. The treatment used allows the analytical characteristics of the solution to be kept, adding to the conventional GITT approach the indicating function, which defines the presence of the discontinuity.
