Bosarge, B.S. ABSTRACT The ability to transfer and implant genetic material continues to have a tremendous impact on the practice of medicine. The techniques involved are constantly being redefined. Gene transfer may be able to ameliorate a number of chronic diseases and has implications in promoting the healing process. We review here the basic approaches involved in gene transfer, including cell-mediated transport, and discuss the implications related to genetic implants.
