Davidson ABSTRACT An owner of four parrots was operating the cleaning cycle of a polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE)-coated oven. After 2 hours, one parrot began showing signs of ataxia and died shortly thereafter. The three other parrots died a short time later. This case demonstrates that PTFE fume fatalities continue, regardless of the amount of literature and publicity addressing this problem, and indicates a need for further education of the public.
