ABSTRACT
The qualitative and quantitative characteristics of plankton heterotrophic flagellates occurring in various biotopes of a small plain river were investigated on the example of the Latka river representing a tributary of the Rybinsk reservoir (the upper reaches of the Volga river, Russia). A total of 91 species of heterotrophic flagellates of 10 orders and of the group of uncertain taxonomic affiliation was found during the period of investigations. The orders Chrysomonadida, Cercomonadida, and Choanoflagellida were represented by the largest number of species. In the beaver ponds, heterotrophic flagellates occurred in abundance, whereas in the sections with a high speed of water flow they were less abundant.
