The cycle of methane was investigated in the water of shallow zones of the Rybinsk reservoir. It has been found that O₂ uptake for CH₄ oxidation accounted for 10% of BOD₁, whereas the uptake of organic carbon for its synthesis was 3.5−9.7 μg C/(L·day).
