Accumulation of ¹³⁷Cs by Silurus Glanis L. in Water Bodies of the Kiev Region after the Accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station

ABSTRACT

The content of ¹³⁷Cs in the tissues of Silurus glanis occurring in the cooling pond of the Chernobyl NPS, in the Pripyat river, and in the Kanev reservoir was studied in 1986-2005. Positive "dimensional effect" in the accumulation of ¹³⁷Cs was established. The maximum averaged content of ¹³⁷Cs (100 kBq/kg) was registered in the muscles of Silurus glanis occurring in the cooling pond of the Chernobyl NPS in 1988. Since that time the content of ¹³⁷Cs in fishes of all the studied water bodies decreases. hi recent years the rate of the decrease in the content of ¹³⁷Cs in the tissues of Silurus glanis essentially decreased. The maximum concentration factor of ¹³⁷Cs was observed after 8-10 years after the accident at the Chernobyl NPS.
