The simplest bioassays based on visual observation of behavioral responses and changes in body color of fish and aquatic invertebrates in a toxic medium are fast, sensitive, easily reproducible, and cheap. Such assays require no complicated instrumentation and reagents and may be useful and useable in monitoring of wastewaters, at toxicological examination in fish industry, as well as in many other cases when accessible, rapid and cheap methods of revealing water medium toxicity are needed. Systematized information is presented on most informative signs of intoxications in aquatic organisms and their responses to toxic action, which could be revealed by visual observations.
