    ABSTRACT

Contents of Hg (II), Cu (II), Pb (II), and Cd (II) in water, bottom sediments and freshwater vascular plants along the Dubossary Reservoir were under coupled analysis. The maximum content of metals in these aquatic ecosystem components has been registered in the area of the industrial complex, comprising two cement works and one metallurgical work. Rooted hydatophytes (Myriophyllum verticillatum L., Potamogeton perfoliatus L., Potamogeton pectinatus L., Elodea canadensis Michx.) absorb larger quantities of heavy metals than helophytes do (Typha latifolia L., Phragmites australis, Butomus umbellatus L.). Potamogeton perfoliatus shows the best qualities as a biomonitoring organism. The contents of heavy metals in its biomass correlated positively with both concentration of their dissolved forms (r = 0.997−0.651) and forms bound by bottom sediment (r = 0.972−0.545).
