Shkundina ABSTRACT The species composition of phytoplankton, the quantitative indices of its development, and also its distribution, were studied in different floodplain lakes of the Belaya river (Bashkortostan, Russian Federation). A total of 302 species and varieties of algae was found in phytoplankton. Chlorophyta and Bacillariophyta were highly diverse in their species composition. Based on the indices of eutrophication, the studied lakes were assigned to mesotrophic and eutrophic water bodies. Based on the saprobic indices, they were assigned to β-mesosaprobic water bodies.
