    ABSTRACT

Essential distinctions were revealed in comparing phytoperiphyton with other ecological groups of algae communities occurring in the Dnieper reservoirs. It has been found that algae inhabiting solid inorganic substrata significantly differ from phytoplankton, phytobenthos, and phytoepiphyton in their species composition, floristic spectra, number of species, complex of dominant species, spectra of leading genera, and also in the intensity of their development. Phytoperiphyton represents a specified well-defined ecological group of algae communities.
