Exometabolites of Aquatic Macrophytes of the Phenol Origin and their Influence on the Vital Activity of Planktonic Algae

ABSTRACT

Specified concentrations of phenol carbonic acids released by higher aquatic plants into the water are capable of inhibiting the physiological activity of Cyanobacteria. At the same time, they are capable of stimulating the development of Chlorophyta, Bacillariophyta, and also of algae belonging to other taxonomic groups. The highest concentration of phenol carbonic acids is registered in the sections of the reservoirs occupied of the thickets of higher aquatic plants. In the sections characterized by mass development of water bloom forming species of Cyanobacteria, the concentration of these acids is rather low.
