    ABSTRACT

A mathematical model is proposed for describing the species structure of a competitive community inhabiting some stochastically variable environment. The species list of this community, rearranged according to a decrease in species abundance, has to be described by decreasing geometrical series. According to the hypothesis of stochastic remainder, when all competing species use the resource by the optimal way, then the coefficient of this geometrical series should be equal to the value q = exp (−1) = 0.368. The case study of Pacific salmon species structure is presented.
