Heavy pollution of water by urea results in essential changes in the structure of phytoplankton. Cyanophyta proved to be most sensitive to the influence of high concentrations of ammonium. The quantitative indices of development of Cyanophyta decreased, whereas the numbers and biomass of Chlorophyta, primarily of Volvocales, increased with increasing the content of NH₄⁺, ions in water.
