Usenko ABSTRACT Algae producing exometabolites along with other hydrobionts are of considerable importance in the formation of the composition of dissolved organic matter in continental water bodies. The intensity of excretion and assimilation of extracellular organic substances depends on the taxonomic affiliation and physiological activity of the producers of these compounds. Various compounds, including biologically active substances influencing water quality, are formed as a result of the process of decomposition of cell structures.
