Glazkov ABSTRACT The data of eight works on critical heat loads for heat carrier streams twisted in a tube with the aid of a tape (272 experimental points in all) are presented. A comparison of the data on critical heat loads on stream twisting with corresponding data for smooth tubes at x ≤ 0 is made. The results of the comparison allow the following assumptions to be made: 1) for both smooth tubes and tubes with tape swirlers the action of the same factors is determining in heat transfer crisis; 2) for both smooth tubes and tubes with tape swirlers the dependence of the critical heat load on the length of a heated section seems to be valid; this dependence is very strong, approximately as ∼1/L. This result can be due to the weakening of turbulent fluctuations of the mass velocity in the flow core due to the appearance of a bubble layer near the heater surface.
