Sukach ABSTRACT We present a model of the boiling crisis of binary mixtures. The model relates the origination of the boiling crisis with a growth of dry spots on a heated surface. In boiling of mixtures the gradient of capillary pressure that determines the inflow of liquid to the zone of intense evaporation includes not only the gradient of the liquid film surface curvature as in the case of single-component liquids, but also the gradient of surface tension. The computational relation obtained on the basis of the model is in good agreement with experimental data on critical heat fluxes in boiling of an ethanol-water mixture at pressures 0.1-3.1 MPa.
