Korsakov ABSTRACT Turbulent modes of mercury convection (Pr = 0.025) in closed cylindrical reservoirs are studied by a method of direct numerical modeling. Results of the calculation of convection in a reservoir heated from below at Rayleigh numbers (Ra) equal to 105 and 106 are presented. MHD effects are studied under the boundary conditions which are similar to those realized in the setups of the Czochralski method at Ra = 8.45·106 . Calculation results are compared with the available experimental and numerical data.
