Desalination of Seawater by the Energy-Saving Membrane Distillation Method

ABSTRACT

The results of experimental research of desalination of Mediterranean seawater by the membrane distillation method using Russian composite film membranes of the type "Vladipor", brand names MFFK2, MFFK3, and MFFK3, are given. The proposed mathematical model of the process takes into account the effects of temperature and concentration polarization and the presence of mineral substances in the solution; the application of the model in engineering calculations is also shown. Two energy-saving models of membrane-distillation seawater desalination plants, including a solar collector for cold and hot water supply, are proposed.
