    ABSTRACT

A detailed analysis of heat consumption in residential buildings of the Klaipeda city showed that low heat demands in 1999−2002 were determined by a low comfort level, and this can be related to the solvency of consumers [1]. Families’ incomes and heat tariff, which are different in large and small towns, determine the consumers’ paying capacity. Therefore, for generalization of heat demand in residential buildings it is necessary to investigate towns of different sizes in a possibly wider range of climate conditions.
Underestimating the situation in small Lithuanian towns, it would be not reliable to draw conclusions on the peculiarities of heat consumption in the residential sector of the whole country. Data on heat suppliers’ settlement with consumers of several small Lithuanian towns in which the number of consumers varies in the range from several tens to several hundreds (Kaisiadorys, Salèininkai, S. Trakai, Birstonas and Birþai), and data on heat consumption in residential buildings published by Lithuanian District Heating Association are used for such analysis.
The results of the analysis are generalized by the dependence of heat demand in residential houses on the characteristic indices of heat tariff, the size of town, the structure of residential buildings and climatic conditions.
