Lynikiene ABSTRACT The objective of the investigation was thermal energy storage using phase change material (calcium chloride hexahydrate) capsules for air heating. The results of the investigation showed that the amount of stored thermal energy calcium chloride hexahydrate in capsules (diameter 21 mm), when temperature changed from 15 to 33 °C and the index of close-set of capsules was 30%, reached 92.3 MJ/m3, i.e. was 4.6 times higher than that in granite macadam. The close-set index of capsules increased 1.5 times, as did also the amount of stored heat. The dependence of the melting time of the storage charge of these capsules on a specific air flow rate was established.
