    ABSTRACT

The heating of buildings is the largest consumer of energy in Lithuania (nearly 40% of the final energy demand) and neigh-bouring countries of a similar climate, where premises usually are heated about seven months per year. The total final heat consumption across the country exceeds 10 TWh, and consumer’s costs for heat supply are about 1.4 bill. Litas.
The efficiency of heat use can be best demonstrated by comparing relative heat consumption figures of buildings, which depend upon climate conditions (ambient temperature) and thermal resistance of the building envelope. Besides, indoor temperature and ventilation requirements also have a significant influence to heating demand.
In the paper, a theoretical model of heat demand is considered evaluating heat losses thorough outer constructions and those related to ventilation, air infiltration, and other factors. Specific heat losses for outer constructions have been evaluated using results of investigations carried out by other authors. An approximating function was elaborated for the analysis of interaction of different factors reflecting the recorded heat demand in buildings with the best accuracy.
