    ABSTRACT

The effects of viscous dissipation and Joule heating on transient two-dimensional non-Darcy magnetohydrodynamic convection flow of micropolar fluid over an infinite, vertical, permeable, moving, flat plate embedded in a saturated porous medium with constant suction are numerically investigated. The plate moves with constant velocity in the longitudinal direction, and the free stream velocity is assumed to have a constant value. A uniform transverse magnetic field acts perpendicular to the permeable plate, which absorbs the micropolar fluid with constant suction velocity. The effects of material parameters, viscous dissipation, and Joule heating on the velocity and temperature fields as well as on the skin friction, local couple stress, and local Nusselt number are analyzed. It is found that the friction coefficient increases, and the heat transfer rate at the surface decreases, with the increase of both the viscous dissipation and the magnetic parameters. The friction coefficient and the heat transfer rate in the case of micropolar fluids are found to be less than in the case of Newtonian fluid.
