Some Studies on Heat Transfer in the Riser Section of a Cyclone Suspension Preheater

ABSTRACT

Heat transfer between the gas and solid phases was conducted in the riser section of a cyclone suspension preheater system where particles were kept at suspended conditions. Three mesh sizes of particles at different concentrations were used and it was observed that the heat-transfer coefficient in the system depended on both the concentration of solid particles and the particle Reynolds number in the riser section. Fifty sets of data were collected and an analysis of the data was made to fit the data into the mathematical model developed. The correlation obtained among the Nusselt number, the Reynolds number, and the solid concentrations in the riser was Nu = 1.4 × 10−4 βv−0.6342 Rep0.8955. Statistical analysis between the experimental and calculated (using correlation) values of the Nusselt number was also made and a correlation coefficient of 0.97 was obtained.
