    ABSTRACT

In this study, the magnetic effects on combustion characteristics of hydrogen flame were investigated. A solenoid coil electromagnet was used to produce magnetic flux density ranging from 0 to 1.5 T.The burner was set between the electromagnetic poles. Flame pictures were taken with a CCD camera fitted with an optical filter. These pictures were digitally analyzed to obtain twodimensional distributions of the spectral emission intensity of OH radicals. It was clearly found that the distribution was narrowed, and that the spectral emission intensity was concentrated around the flame center in the magnetic field. On the other hand, the flow velocity and temperature in the flame were scarcely changed by the magnetic field.
