ABSTRACT
This article gives an overview of the development of the shape of a special thermometric thermocouple probe that was designed to take measurements in the several-millimeter-wide slot between the stages of an axial compressor. The parameters of the compressor require measurement of the total temperature in a wide range of Reynolds and Mach numbers, as well as measurements of the angle of attack. Moreover, the probe shape should protect the thermocouple from the heat sources. A probe with a chamber, the shape of which ensures angle insensitivity and shielding, was selected for this purpose. The shape of the chamber, fulfilling the given requirements, has been developed by means of flow visualization. The correctness of the design has been verified by detailed calibration.
