Bailly ABSTRACT A specific approach of the optical analysis of three-dimensional (3-D) flows by means of quantitative imagery is presented. The main objective is to remove the intrinsic ambiguity of the tomographic analysis; that is, hovi to obtain reliable 3-D information by using a two-dimensional (2-D) plane illumination. We describe the possible evolution of the investigation process, from a strictly 2-D to a true volumic analysis. The performances and limitations of this approach are discussed.
