ABSTRACT
Stainless steel spheres are maintained in stable aerodynamic levitation in high temperature argon plasma jets. From jet centerline properties, measured by a coupled pneumatic - mass spectrometric method, apparent drag coefficients are proposed. For large extension of the jet (large nozzle diameter, large levitation height) the drag coefficient approaches the value of 0.2 suggesting high turbulence levels as usually encountered in high temperature plasma flows
