    ABSTRACT

The spatial and temporal evolution of the concentration of atomic radicals [H] in a high-temperature hydrogen gas column has been evaluated, assuming constant pressures in the range from 0,25 to 1.0 bar (1 bar = 105 Pa) and temperature decaying by heat conduction while energy is released by the termolecular recombination processes. The initial concentration [H], assumed to correspond to thermal equilibrium at 5000 К, would increase with .pressure, but the recombination also becomes faster with increasing pressure. As a result, high concentration of atomic radicals rapidly becomes favoured by lower gas pressure after the temperature has decayed for a certain time. Also, operation at lower pressures would make the decay of [H] radicals less dependent upon the radius of the gas column.
