ABSTRACT
We have used Mach-Zehnder interferometry to study the radial temperature profiles for an electric arc plasma between tungsten electrodes. The temperature profiles in atmospheric pressure arcs in argon and Ar-CO2 mixtures have been obtained at currents of 100 mA using Mach-Zehnder interferometry. The temperature is extracted from an interferogram via the phase shifting introduced by the refractive index of the studied medium. Temperatures within 300 K−3500 K were found depending upon plasma coordinates.
