ABSTRACT
Investigations described in this paper are related to study the waste and biomass treatment using thermal plasma as the heat source. Advantages of plasma based technologies over conventional incineration includes higher temperatures, independence of additional fuel, shorter residence times.
Experimental data of high temperature pyrolysis of same biomass samples, such as pine pieces, by means of water vapor plasma torch are described. Pyrolysis and gasification experiments were performed at water vapor jet temperature changes from 800 to 1400 K. Energy expenditure in thermal gasification technology of solid fuel and plasma processes is compared. Experimental results show that thermal plasma could be used in high temperature solid fuel pyrolysis and waste treatment technologies.
