We consider effective in-plane stiffness properties of square honeycomb structures. Most attention is paid to the (usually) smallest shear modulus. By numerical experiments based on the homogenization method for partial differential equations, we derive improved formulae for this parameter, which are significantly more accurate than the formulae obtained from discrete network analyses.
