ABSTRACT
A specially designed airblast atomizer that produces a flat liquid sheet sandwiched between two coflowing air streams is used to study the influence of liquid properties, liquid flow rate, air/liquid ratio, air pressure, and atomizing air velocity on the drop sizes produced by disintegration of the sheet. The liquids employed in this study are water, aviation kerosine, heating oil, and a glycerine-water mixture. Atomizing air velocity is varied from 23 to 60 m/s and atomizing air pressure from 1 to 5 atm. A nonintrusive Malvern 2600 particle sizer is used to measure drop size distributions in the spray.
