FUNDAMENTALS ON EMISSION AND CONTROL OF TRACE METAL COMPOUNDS IN COMBUSTION PROCESSES

ABSTRACT

Fundamentals on emission and control of several pure trace metal compounds under low temperature were studied by using a thermobalance and an electrically heated batch reactor. Five kinds of sorbent were mixed with the trace metal compounds to control the emission. Evolution characteristics of trace metals depend on their melting points. Generally, chloride compounds, except for CrCl3, easily evaporate. Kaolin, limestone, and wasted seashell were found to be effective sorbents for capturing the trace metals to form aluminosilicates and calcium compounds, respectively. This suggests that both kaolin and calcium-base sorbents can chemically absorb the trace metal compounds.
