Thompson ABSTRACT In this paper, NOx emission modeling and prediction are studied. Two types of models, namely linear ARX and nonlinear ARX, have been built for a coal-fired power generation plant. These two models are compared and contrasted on their one-step ahead and long-term generalization capacities. The results show that although both models have the same one-step-ahead prediction performance, the nonlinear one is better for long-term prediction of NOx emission. Further suggestions are made on NOx emission modeling for boiler operation and emission control.
