Pis ABSTRACT A series of coals were blended and several aspects of the resultant blends were studied. This included determination of the grindability of the samples by means of the Hardgrove Grindability Index and temperature programmed combustion tests, which were carried out in a thermogravimetric analyzer coupled to a quadrupole mass spectrometer. Special attention was paid to the combustibility parameters and the NO emissions during blend combustion. It was found that while some coal blends present interaction between the individual coals, others do not. This behavior was assumed to be due to the differences in coal structure and functional groups composition.
